Freak Out! Punkers EP, the debut release from Portland, OR’s Freak Out!, tunes in from a frequency emanating from a loosely parallel timeline bridging the past, future, and eternal: a far mellower mirror of our own reality where punks, freaks, and benevolent stoned wanderers still walk the Earth; where the “electronica” section is still stop #1 at the record store; where prismatic big beat sample-driven bangers still rainbow together dancefloors across oceans.

This manner of casual cosmic time-and-space-tripping now comes confidently as second nature to the Certified Bad Boys™ of Freak Out!, who have been growing their amorphous and genre-fluid sound-Pulse globally of late with mixes for heavy-hitting musical collectives such as Sound Metaphors, Dream Chimney, and Test Pressing.

Those hailing from the mirror timeline will immediately recognize the titular Punkers off the OST from Playstation 1 classic Burrito Run: Venice Beach; others will have less context but be no less stoked for this loose-limbed rave anthem flinging the EP down the rail with force quite impressive indeed. Lucky Stoned pumps the brakes but rolls the top down, welcoming a cool breeze of pop-shoegaze sleaze before a glittering flock of synth-gulls alight across the backseat, cruising into smoggy coral under the credit roll.

Time for a cheeky snack: Herbs and Spices smears a proprietary blend of over 45 local and international flavors (patent pending) all over a high-energy Elektro-Kebab certain to provide critical energy and nutrients. Not a moment too soon, as EP closer The Answer wrings out every ounce of protein and emotion you’ve got left with an elegantly harmonized French house-flavored midtempo thumper shutting things down with vocoded sunbeams of love blasting through the stained-glass windows.

But that’s not all! Well-befitting a recorded item so reminiscent of the time of Little Plastic Discs, Freak Out! have graced us all with a stellar BONUS TRACK. As revealed by the squelchy classic techno version of the track delivered by Los Angeles own DX3, the Punkers are dropping acid—and they love it.

About
Bed of Roses began with a small group of friends in Portland, Oregon in 2012 — artists, musicians, and late-night dreamers who loved to make things and lose themselves in their creations. What started as a few recordings between friends soon grew into something bigger: a label, mix series, party, a family.

After the first releases came the Bed of Roses Mix Series. And then the first party — Club Tropicana — a humid and joy-soaked experiment with a fake tropical foliage decor, and DJs both local and international assisting with vibes. Club Tropicana set the tone for everything that followed. From that night forward, Bed of Roses events, releases, and mix series became the go to for open-eared dancers, deep diggers, and those chasing euphoria through sound.

Over the years they continued to help this imprint evolve as well as stay true to its DIY foundations. Together they’ve built a sound that can embrace genres as well as expand on them, shaped by endless curiosity and the joy of discovery — music made by and for people who are always digging.
Their gatherings swing between gentle and feral. Hazy afternoons like Café del Gumar, where the tempo drifts with the light. And Freak Out! nights that erupt into ecstatic, sweat-drenched abandon. Whether it’s a basement, club, or meeting in a cozy valley in the outskirts of Washington, every Bed of Roses event carries the same pulse — euphoric and inclusive… unpretentious and alive.

The label’s catalog follows the same ethos, bridging Portland’s underground with a growing international circle. Alongside its local artists, Bed of Roses has hosted an array of international DJs — proof that a small community can have a wide ripple.

Bed of Roses isn’t a brand — it’s an ecosystem. A continuum of friends, feelings, and frequencies, rooted in a punk spirit and guided by joy. The sound of people building their own higher state, one night at a time.
